Calcutta: On the night of August 9, the parents of the 31-year-old doctor who was tragically raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata received three alarming phone calls from a hospital official. The details of these calls, which recently came to light, have added to the grief and confusion surrounding the horrific incident.

According to a report, the first call was made by the deputy superintendent of RG Kar Hospital, who urged the victim's parents to come to the hospital, saying, “Your daughter is not well. Can you please come to the hospital immediately?” When the victim's father pressed for more details, the caller simply stated that she was not well and was being admitted to the hospital. Despite further enquiries, the caller insisted that the doctors would explain everything when they arrived.

The second call shortly afterwards brought an even worse message: the caller said the woman’s condition was “very critical.”

The most disturbing call was the third one, where the staff member nervously told the parents, “She may have committed suicide or died. The police are here. We are at the hospital and are making this call in front of everyone.” This vague and disturbing statement only added to the parents' fear and confusion.

The doctor, who was working a grueling 36-hour shift, had gone to the hospital's seminar room to rest when she was allegedly attacked by Sanjay Roy. The autopsy report later confirmed the horrific truth: the doctor had been raped and murdered. The report also revealed that her body bore 25 internal and external injuries, painting a grim picture of the brutality she had to endure.

Sanjay Roy was arrested after video footage showed him entering the seminar hall at 4:03 am on August 9. The investigation into the crime is ongoing and Roy is the prime suspect.

Adding to the controversy, the Supreme Court has criticised Dr Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, for attempting to dismiss the case as a suicide instead of recognising the heinous nature of the crime.

The vague and disturbing nature of the phone calls made to the victim's parents on the night of the incident raises serious doubts about the hospital staff's handling of the situation. As the investigation progresses, these calls will likely play a key role in understanding the full extent of what happened that night.
