Fans demand Sky coach Teresa Weatherspoon's dismissal after another defeat

The Chicago Sky suffered another loss on Wednesday night against the Washington Mystics, who now have a record of 9-22.

With the 74-70 loss, the Sky have their fourth straight loss and a season record of 11-19. Despite playing without guard Chennedy Carter (who has been their offensive spark this season) on Wednesday, many fans expected the Sky to emerge victorious over the Mystics.

A bright spot for Chicago was rookie Kamilla Cardoso, who scored a double-double (10 points and 11 rebounds) with just four shots from the field and also contributed 5 assists and 3 blocks.

Despite her success, Kardoso was not used for most of the fourth quarter, and many fans on social media are calling for Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon to be fired over the decision.

“Fire Teresa Weatherspoon! You can argue with me all you want, but you can leave the best player on the field and the best scorer on the bench for most of the fourth inning in a game we have to win against arguably the worst team in the league. Terrible coaching for the third game in a row!” wrote one X-user.

Another said: “This was the last game I had to see to know that Teresa Weatherspoon needs to be fired. She is not fit for the job.”

A third fan wrote: “@chicagosky should fire Weatherspoon immediately

that was one of the worst results in basketball I have ever seen

absolute dud 2:40 before the end of the game”.

“The game is a waste. Spoon has to go,” said a fourth X user.

While it may be premature to fire Weatherspoon before the end of her first season as head coach, Sky fans clearly expected more from their team after their huge success at the 2024 WNBA Draft this season.

Chicago now has just a half-game lead over the Atlanta Dream, putting them in eighth and final place in the WNBA playoffs with 11 regular-season games remaining.
