“Scandal” star Kerry Washington looks completely different in the epic trailer for the big Netflix drama – and it looks dramatic

Kerry Washington stars in the first trailer for Netflix's upcoming World War II drama. The Six Triple Eight, It tells of the first and only colored unit of the Women's Army Corps to serve overseas.

The film was written and directed by Tyler Perry and features the scandal The star of the cast is Major Charity Adams, the commanding officer of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, who was committed to serving her country with honor and distinction despite racism, sexism and grueling working conditions.

“Given an extraordinary mission and united in their determination, these unsung heroes brought hope and broke barriers,” the synopsis reads. Kerry's character looks a world away from her off-screen counterpart, wearing a moss green army uniform and upswept curls. Watch the first trailer below.

The film features an all-star cast, including Ebony Obsidian (Sistas, Masters of Nothing), Milauna Jackson (How to get away with murder)Kylie Jefferson (Little pretty things), Shanice Shantay (Perfect harmony), Sarah Jeffery (Over the Line, Charmed), Pepi Sonuga (Queens, Famous in Love)Moriah Brown (Power Book II: Ghost, Raising Dion), Jeanté Godlock (Daybreak), Jay Reeves (Security, typically American) and Jeffery Johnson (Bird of Paradise, Elkhorn).

The main cast is rounded off by Baadja-Lyne Odums (this is us), Donna Biscoe (Hidden Figures – The Basics of Care), Gregg Sulkin (Outliers who fake it), Scott Daniel Johnson (The banker, a man in full), Susan Sarandon (Thelma & Louise, The Last Man), Dean Norris (Breaking Bad, Unfrosted), Sam Waterston (Law & Order, Grace and Frankie) and Oprah Winfrey (The colour purple).

Based on a true story, the film is about the 6888th Central Postal Directory, which was dispatched to Europe in February 1945 and found a backlog of 17 million pieces of mail, some of which had incorrect or incomplete addresses, and was told to send them within six months.

It was a task with high emotional stakes, as the soldiers' families in the U.S. had not received mail from their loved ones in months. The 855 women worked three eight-hour shifts to complete the task.

At the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival, Kerry said of the film: “I felt like these women were accompanying us through this process. You could feel her spirit the whole time.”

The Six Triple Eight will be in selected cinemas from December 6th and on Netflix from December 20th.
