Rain and accidents cause delays in rush hour traffic on Thursday morning before Labor Day

STATEN ISLAND, NY — Rain and an accident on the Gowanus Expressway are causing delays during rush hour Thursday morning as traffic begins to back up ahead of Labor Day weekend.

According to AccuWeather.com, rain showers on Staten Island should end around 7 a.m. and skies will remain mostly clear for the rest of the day.

Cooler weather with highs of around 25.5 degrees and light winds will provide relief from Wednesday's highs of around 30 degrees, AccuWeather.com reports.

Emergency response efforts on the Gowanus Expressway near 67th Street are coming to an end. According to surveillance cameras on 511 NY, an accident was reported there at around 4:45 a.m.
