Welcome to your weekly roundup (a little late this week – sorry!) where we analyze the latest Netflix viewership numbers from the last seven days. This week we cover Incoming, The Union, The accident, The Frog, Wyatt Earp and the Cowboy War, Nice girlsAnd Tokunbo.

Note: In this report on hours watched on Netflix from August 19, 2024 to August 25, 2024, we use Complete Viewings Equivalent (CVE) expressed in millions. This means that we divide the hours watched reported by Netflix by the running time of movies or series. This allows for better comparisons between movies and series, but is not a viewership metric. It is the minimum number of views if everyone has watched the entire movie or season from the first to the last second.

1. Nice girls is not Under Paris.

When the French film Under Paris comfortably sits at number 2 on the most watched international film charts of all time, it was fair to assume that the algorithm would push the French comedy Nice girls for the same audience. Maybe it was, but it had a lackluster launch, with just 4.3 million CVEs in the first 5 days and a dismal public response (4.2/10 on IMDb). This will fade quickly.

2. The Union breathes life into the August charts.

After 10 days, “The Union” is still going strong and currently represents the 12th best opening for a Netflix original film released on a Friday since June 2021.

However, it is only a few million CVEs away from competing with Damsel for the title of most-watched Netflix film of 2024.

3. Incoming does what it should.

With its unknown cast and American high school setting, Incoming didn't have much of a chance to make an impression worldwide. It got off to a fairly modest start, with 9.9 million CVEs in the first three days.

It fared better than “Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story” or “Shirley,” two other films with better casts but also very American-centric themes, so all in all, not bad.

4. Untold is back.

The Untold The sports documentary series is back with a new season this summer, with new documentaries being released every week. The first one this summer is The murder of Air McNairWhen you combine sports and true crime, it does great, as evidenced by its launch with 8.3 million CVEs in the first six days.

5. Tokunbo is a groundbreaking film from Nigeria.

Did you know that Nigeria has a population of 256 million? I didn't know that, but now I understand why Netflix is investing more and more in its Nigerian offering. This week, Tokunbo made the top 10 with the second best opening of a Nigerian Netflix film (4.9 million CVEs).

6. Wyatt Earp has no result.

Pop quiz, hotshot. Which history topic do Netflix subscribers prefer between WWII, Hitler, 9/11, Alexander the Great, Queen Cleopatra and Wyatt Earp? If you chose Alexander the Great, you were right because this is currently the most watched history docuseries with 7.1 million CVEs in the first 5 days, and not even Sharpshooter Wyatt Earp could knock it off its throne as the docuseries Wyatt Earp and the Cowboy War only opened with 3.9 million CVEs.

7. The accident flies high.

Mexican series The Accident caused a stir online over the weekend, as its absurd segment about the aftermath of a bouncy castle accident trended particularly well on X (and Netflix itself picked up the meme). The series performed very well in its first week, garnering 10.4 million CVEs in its first five days, the second-best start for a new series from Latin America.

8. The Frog doesn't jump off the charts.

A series called “The Frog” is difficult to sell to the audience. This was also reflected in the charts, as the South Korean series opened with 2 million CVEs, putting it in the bottom half of new South Korean series launches this year.
