Bungie fired former Marathon director after allegations of misconduct

Bloomberg reports that Christopher Barrett, a high-ranking executive and director at Bungie, was fired in March following a series of allegations of misconduct.

Barrett was previously a director at Marathon and had a seat in the Bungie board before the company was acquired by Sony. Bloomberg claims he was accused by at least eight women of “inappropriate behavior” toward them in the workplace.

He allegedly “described lower-level female employees as attractive, asked them to play truth or dare, and mentioned his wealth and power at the studio,” suggesting that he could help them “advance their careers.”

Sources who spoke to Bloomberg claim he befriended several women from different departments at the studio, then reportedly sent a “flood” of text messages that “blurred the lines between professional and personal.”

Barrett joined Bungie in 1999 as an artist, but over time became a major figure in the studio, serving as director and designer on key projects including Fate 2 And Marathon.

It is reported that Bungie employees were not informed why Barrett was fired. Marathon The team was initially informed that he was on sabbatical. A replacement for Barrett has already been found.

In a statement to Bloomberg, Bungie's parent company Sony Interactive said it takes “all complaints of misconduct very seriously.” The PlayStation maker added: “It is our policy and practice to promptly investigate each complaint and take action based on the results of our investigation.”

Barrett told Bloomberg that he was “always respectful and supportive of my colleagues” at Bungie, but also apologized to anyone who felt “uncomfortable” because of his behavior.
