Metallica pay tribute to fan after tragic death at their concert – Music News

Metallica have paid tribute to a fan who died at their concert last week.

The heavy metal legends played at the Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, Canada, on Friday (23.08.24) as part of their “M72 World Tour” and sent their “condolences” to the family of Lorne (aka Viking), saying they were “touched” to be able to spend his “final time” with him.

Alongside a picture of the fan, the band wrote on Instagram this week: “Friday night, August 23rd, we lost a member of the Metallica family at the show in Edmonton. He passed away due to health reasons. He is leaving the earthly body and moving on to the next adventure. It is very sad when death occurs, but we are touched that he spent some of his final, hopefully joyful time with us. Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Lorne 'Viking'.”

Lorne is said to have received “aggressive CPR” after becoming ill in the VIP area, the front mosh pit, during the show.

The health problem he was suffering from is unknown.

A Facebook user named Erika Oldale claims she was a friend of Lorne and shared her story about the loss of her “dear friend.”

She wrote in the discussion section of the group “M72 World Tour 2023/2024 (Metallica)”: “At the concert in Edmonton on Friday night, my friend Lorne had a medical issue and was taken out of the snake pit on a stretcher while emergency services performed aggressive CPR. Despite all their efforts, Lorne did not survive. The outpouring of condolences and well wishes makes those of us who were lucky enough to call him a friend feel a little less lost and alone. Thank you to the concertgoers for this. He was the kindest soul. We all called him Viking. He will be missed terribly!! Please play a Metallica song and raise a glass to Viking!! RIP my dear friend.”
