Secondary school builds new theatre block, approval granted

The construction of a new secondary school building will provide students with additional classrooms.

Reach Free School in Long Lane, Rickmansworth, received permission yesterday (28 August) to build two modular single-storey buildings on its site.

One of them is intended to be a theater hall, while the other, which is connected by a concrete area between the two, is to be used for storage and offices.

Although this will not increase the number of students at the school, it will create more space for drama classes, which are expected to include up to 30 lessons of 50 minutes each per week.

It is to be built between the school and sports hall on a site that is currently used as storage space.

The offices will house the school's three caretakers. Three store rooms will be made available for theatre equipment, Duke of Edinburgh's Award equipment and other purposes.

The school initially opened in 2013 at a temporary site on Wolsey Business Park in Watford, before moving to its permanent site in September 2018 as it reached its full capacity of 840 students.
