Wrangell police arrested a woman in connection with a stabbing at Evergreen Trailer Park early Tuesday morning.

Dana Cawthorne, 42, has been charged with first-degree aggravated assault for allegedly stabbing a man in the chest.

Wrangell Police Chief Gene Meek said police and an ambulance immediately arrived at the scene.

When police arrived, Cawthorne allegedly fled the scene.

According to police, officers found her a short distance away behind a trailer and were able to take her safely into custody.

An ambulance took the victim to the hospital to examine his injuries.

Meek said the victim will be OK.

“It was a pretty serious injury,” he said. “They are currently being flown out to another area where they will receive more intensive care. They will survive. I see no reason why the gentleman could not make a full recovery, but it was a serious injury.”

Cawthorne's arraignment was scheduled for 4 p.m. Tuesday. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
