Typhoon Shanshan claims three lives in its devastation in Japan

Japan's strongest typhoon of the year, Typhoon Shanshan, has caused significant devastation, leaving at least three people dead and one person missing, according to Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi.

“We have reports of three deaths and one person is still missing,” Hayashi said, News.Az reports, citing foreign media.

Television station NHK reported that at least 40 people were injured in the storm.

The typhoon has caused power outages in around 237,000 households, mainly on the island of Kyushu. In addition, 87 sections of highway in Kyushu have been closed and rail traffic has been suspended. Over 700 flights have been cancelled across Japan in the last two days.

Typhoon Shanshan is currently devastating Kagoshima Prefecture with wind speeds of 50 to 70 meters per second and is slowly moving northward.
