Liverpool team news

Liverpool's injury report ended shortly before the Brentford game when Arne Slot confirmed that midfielder Curtis Jones had picked up an injury in training. Jones has yet to receive an update on his injury status, but it is likely that this will be addressed in Arne Slot's press conference on Thursday.

Joe Gomez, who missed Liverpool's game against Ipswich Town due to transfer speculation, is now back in the squad and training as usual. With the transfer window closing before the Reds' game against United, whether Gomez is in the squad or not will determine whether he is still at the club or not.

Federico Chiesa is confirmed as a Liverpool player ahead of the game as the transfer window closes on Friday, but it would perhaps be a little over the top to see the Italian winger in the squad so soon. However, he will certainly meet the deadline to be eligible for the game and it will depend on whether Slot believes he is ready to make an immediate impact.

News about Manchester United

While Liverpool have few injury concerns, Manchester United have to reckon with a group of players who will need weeks to get back into training. Rasmus Hojlund, Leny Yoro, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are injured and will not play on Sunday.

Following Manchester United's matchday two defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion, manager Erik ten Hag confirmed that Mason Mount's substitution for Joshua Zirkzee was an injury precaution as Mount “had an issue” in the game. His status for the match, like Curtis Jones for Liverpool, is currently unknown and is likely to be addressed by ten Hag in media availability.

After appearing in pre-season and in the Community Shield match, Jadon Sancho has been left out of Manchester United's first two teams this season. With the English club currently suffering from transfer speculation, Sancho is not on Erik ten Hag's team sheet. It is highly unlikely that Sancho will still be at United after the August 30 deadline, with both Chelsea and Juventus interested in him.

United could, however, have a new signing ready for the Liverpool clash, with Manuel Ugarte on the verge of becoming a Red Devil. The Uruguayan midfielder arrives from Paris Saint-Germain, although it is unclear whether Erik ten Hag will include him in the team straight away, with the game just days away.

Expected line-up for Manchester United vs Liverpool: Onana, Mazraoui, Maguire, Martinez, Dalot, Mainoo, Casemiro, Garnacho, Fernandes, Rashford, Zirkzee

Liverpool vs Manchester United score prediction

This is undoubtedly Liverpool's toughest game of the season so far, and the Reds will need to pull out all the stops to get three points at Old Trafford. After two draws last season and a narrow defeat in the FA Cup, this game looks set to be a close one again. While Liverpool's 7-0 victory is not far off, Arne Slot's side will likely face a United side looking to bounce back after a defeat last week.

Latest prediction: 1:1, Mo Salah scores a goal for the third game in a row.
