Local businesses help police arrest a thieves' ring in Reno

A three-month investigation by the Regional Crime Suppression Unit (RCSU) has resulted in the arrest of three individuals and the recovery of thousands of dollars worth of stolen merchandise. The operation, which centered on Roberto's Taco Shop at 4455 S. Virginia Street, involved a fence scheme in which stolen merchandise was purchased at discounted prices and then shipped to Mexico.

RCSU investigators began their investigation after receiving information about a pattern of stolen items being brought to Roberto's co-workers. Suspects who repeatedly stole items from local businesses, including JC Penney's, Home Depot, TJX Companies, Lowe's and Target, were selling their loot to co-workers at significantly reduced prices.

On August 28, RCSU investigators executed search warrants at both locations and arrested three individuals involved in the operation. The search warrants yielded thousands of dollars worth of stolen goods and evidence related to the fence operation.

The companies involved played a key role in the investigation, with JC Penney's, Home Depot and TJX Companies donating nearly $4,000 worth of merchandise to help make the operation a success.
