SM Entertainment responds to speculation about cover-up of former NCT member Taeil's sex crimes investigation; 'Notified in August,' agency says

Former NCT member Taeil parted ways with the group on August 28. His agency SM Entertainment announced his departure because the idol is under investigation for sexual assault. Police reportedly received a complaint against Taeil in June. Netizens speculated that the agency covered up the investigation for about two months.

On August 29, SM Entertainment released a statement clarifying speculations about former NCT member Taeil's cover-up of sexual offenses. The agency stated that Taeil and the agency were notified of the charges and criminal investigation in mid-August. They further stated that Taeil was summoned for police questioning on August 28.

The Bangbae Police Station also confirmed that the criminal complaint against Taeil was filed in June and the investigation is ongoing. Some rumors on the internet suggested that the case involved illegal filming of minors, but these rumors were refuted when the police announced that the victim was an adult woman.

On August 28, SM Entertainment released a statement announcing that Taeil had decided to part ways with the group following allegations of sexual offenses. They explained that the case was still being reviewed and investigated by the police, and given the seriousness of the situation, it was no longer possible to include Taeil in group activities.

Following Taeil's departure, the members of NCT127 unfollowed the former member on Instagram; leader Teyoung was the first to do so.

Taeil was the main vocalist of NCT. Known for his powerful and soulful voice, he was part of various NCT units, including NCT 127 and NCT U. He made his debut in 2016 along with NCT127.
