Second person arrested for baseball bat attack and sneaker theft

More arrests after attack on Dick's House of Sport

A second person was arrested Wednesday in connection with the baseball bat attack at Dick's House of Sport.

Lyric N. Jones, 21, of Albany, is charged with two counts of assault, robbery and illegal possession of a weapon in connection with Saturday's incident, Colonie police said.

He was arraigned in Colonie Municipal Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail. Bail is set at $10,000 cash, $50,000 surety bond or $100,000 partially secured bond.

Previously, NewsChannel 13 spoke with Lt. Anthony Sidoti, who said he expects more arrests for assault on a father and son who had just purchased brand new Nike Air Jordan sneakers at Dick's House of Sport.

The limited edition black and white “White Thunder” shoes cost $215 and were released on Saturday, the same day the midday attack on the Troy-Schenectady Road store took place.

The victims had some bumps, bruises and scratches, but no life-threatening injuries.

They were just about to leave the store when the suspects grabbed baseball bats from the shelf and started hitting them.

Sidoti said police had surveillance video pointing in the exact direction of the attack.

“It really paints a picture of exactly what happened there and helps us understand how things went down. There have been thefts there before, but this was a pretty violent and random incident. In my experience with the Colonie Police Department, I have never seen anything like this, and it's pretty shocking to all of us,” he said.

Police will release the video at a later date. Such videos and videos taken on cell phones really help the case, Sidoti said.

Kyle H. Fowlkes, 19, of Colonie, has already been charged in this case.
