Suicide; Woman tries to steal over ,600 worth of merchandise from Walmart; Teen misbehavior – Your Local News

The City of Monroe Police Department reported the following incidents for the period August 15-22, 2024. Due to length, this report has been split into five parts. This is the fourth part. Please note that an arrest or indictment does not necessarily constitute a conviction.

  • Suspicious Vehicle – Dunkin Donuts – Regarding a Sprinter van that was parked on-site for an extended period of time. The owner was contacted and they removed it at the request of the property manager.
  • Attempted Burglary – N Midland Ave. – In reference to the shed screen being broken and lock being picked. CID was notified. Report taken.
  • Attempted Arrest Warrant – Carwood Dr. – Attempt to locate a named female subject; she was later located on Booth Dr. and taken into custody.
  • Juvenile Complaint – E Church St.; Pilot Park – Regarding six juveniles causing a disturbance and using foul language within earshot of other persons and children. Upon arrival, no disturbance or foul language was seen or heard. The juveniles were spoken to and City Ordinance 62-4(a)(2) was explained. They agreed to refrain from using foul language in the presence of others in the park.
  • Suicide/Death by Death – Stonecreek Way – Regarding the grandson who found his grandfather dead in the home. Deceased was found with a gunshot wound to the head. CID on duty was notified and went to the scene along with the crime scene and Walton County Coroner. Report taken.
  • Dispute – GW Carver Dr – Parents present due to multiple children around the age of 8 not getting along. Both parties mutually agree that their children are getting along well.
  • Shoplifting – Johns Supermarket – In reference to an unknown white male stealing merchandise from the store. Before officers arrived on the scene, the male pushed the complainant and fled the store on a bicycle. The male was not found. Video footage available.
  • Traffic Stop/Arrest – Pine Park St/Davis St – Suspect was stopped for a traffic violation. Suspect was arrested for reckless driving and driving under the influence. Vehicle was turned over to Taylor and suspect turned over to the Alton County Sheriff's Office.
  • Suspicious Vehicle – Mathews Park – Two people sleeping in a vehicle on site. Advised to change location as park is closed after dark. All OK.
  • Suspect – E. Marable and N. Midland – The named individual was observed walking through a yard with an outstanding warrant for his arrest. Taken into custody without incident.
  • Unsecured Building – W. Spring St.; Truist Bank – Regarding an unsecured building, the utility/power room/closet in the back of the building was not secure. The door was closed and locked. Spoke to an onsite employee, all was fine.
  • Suspicious Vehicle – Highway 78 and Charlotte Rowell – WCSO reported a red sedan failing to maintain lane and the driver falling asleep at the wheel. Contact was made with the driver on Charlotte Rowell Boulevard and the suspect was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Vehicle towed from Taylors.
  • Traffic Closed – Sorrells & Maple Ln – In reference to an anonymous complainant who stated a construction company closed a lane without signs on the curve at Maple Ln and Sorrells. A company was pouring concrete on the sidewalk by the apartments on Cook Street, the lane was closed by orange cones, not on the curve. Traffic was flowing accordingly.
  • Theft – West Spring Street; Walmart – in reference to a white female who attempted to steal merchandise valued at over $3,600 on 8/10/2024.
  • Youth behaves in compliance – Pilot Park. Regarding three youths who caused a disturbance on site. Contact was made and corrective measures recommended. All OK.
  • Loud Music/Argument – ​​Tanglewood Ln.; – Plaintiff called regarding loud music played by her neighbor. It was determined that Plaintiff called regarding an argument that had occurred. Civil action was recommended. Officer responded a second time shortly after the original call.
  • Suspicious Person/Drug Arrest – S Madison Ave at Davis St: Subject was stopped because he matched the description of a shoplifting suspect from a previous call. Subject was in possession of methamphetamine and was arrested.
  • Dispute – South Broad Street – Regarding a female who arrived on location attempting to abduct her child. There is an open DFACS case and they have been notified. A safety plan has been put in place. All OK.
  • Suspicious Person/Arrest – Pine Park St. – In reference to a named individual who was observed and matches the description of an individual involved in a theft, the last date at John's Supermarket. The individual was wearing the same clothing as the last date in the video footage. He attempted to flee when he noticed officers, but was quickly located and taken into custody. His fingerprints were taken at MPD and he was transported to WCSO.
