4 dead and 10 injured in rollover accident in Texas

Aug. 28 (UPI) – Four people died and ten were injured when a delivery truck carrying 14 people overturned several times in northeast Texas on Wednesday morning.

The van crashed shortly after 8 a.m. at the intersection of US 287 and FM 1655 and several people were thrown from the almost fully occupied 15-passenger van in Wise County, Texas.

All occupants of the Chevrolet Express are adults. The van was traveling north when it ran off the left side of the road near Alvord in Wise County. Alvord is about 70 miles northwest of Fort Worth.

Texas Highway Patrol officials said the driver overcorrected when the van left the road and was one of three people pronounced dead at the scene. Another died later at a local hospital.

“There were several ejections and 13 of the 14 people sustained injuries,” Sergeant Tony De La Cerda told NBCDFW.

He said the driver was among those pronounced dead at the scene and only one of the 14 passengers was wearing a seat belt. The person wearing a seat belt survived the crash.

Three passengers were flown by helicopter to nearby hospitals, and eight others were transported by ambulance.

None of the accident victims were identified.

The group was traveling from Florida through Texas when the single-vehicle accident occurred, closing the northbound lanes of US-287 for several hours.
