Man arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting sunbather in Santa Monica

SANTA MONICA – A 25-year-old man suspected of climbing on top of a sunbathing woman in Santa Monica and sexually assaulting her has been arrested, police said Wednesday.

According to Santa Monica police, officers responded to the 1300 block of Ocean Front Walk around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday after being stopped by LA County Lifeguards on a report of sexual assault.

The suspect allegedly climbed on top of the woman and began pushing against her.

“She quickly stood up and her sister helped push the suspect away,” police said.

Investigators identified the suspect as Alonzo Dickson, who allegedly left the area heading south along the beach while the woman was looking for help.

He was found by officers near the crime scene, taken into custody and held without bail on suspicion of sexual abuse with coercion.

“Dickson has no criminal record in California, but he has at least one criminal case pending against him in Washington state,” SMPD said. “Investigators are examining the details of this incident as part of that investigation.”

Anyone with information about the alleged sexual abuse is asked to contact Detective Nicole Murphy at [email protected]or the SMPD Watch Commander at 310-458-8427.
