Driver identified in Clairemont Mesa fire crash that killed SDPD officer

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – The San Diego Medical Examiner's Office on Wednesday determined the identity of the driver who was killed in a police chase late Monday night. One San Diego Police Department officer died and another was seriously injured.

The driver was 16-year-old Edgar Giovanny Oviedo, a San Diego resident. According to the medical examiner's statement, Oviedo was driving a BMW sedan eastbound on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard on August 16 when he collided sideways with a San Diego Police Department patrol car traveling northbound at the Dolvia Drive intersection.

Paramedics who arrived at the scene performed life-saving measures and took Oveido to the local emergency room, but he was pronounced dead.
