A Palm Springs man accused of sexually assaulting and drugging several people, including a woman he met at a bar, was recently arrested and remanded in custody, but denied bail.

Juan Segura, 27, of Palm Springs, is accused of six felonies, including rape and sodomy, and alleging that some of his victims were intoxicated or unconscious. He has pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 4.

A woman told police on August 19 that she met a person she knew as “JC” at a Palm Springs bar and chatted with him and his friends at a local hotel. The woman said the situation escalated and she was sexually assaulted. She then traveled to another part of the Inland Empire and reported the incident to authorities there.

Palm Springs police said they determined ā€œJCā€ was Segura, whose full name is Juan Carlos Segura Jr., and arrested him on Aug. 21 in the 400 block of E. Arenas Road.

Upon further investigation, investigators found evidence linking Segura to additional crimes, including a case in March in which someone “believed they had been drugged and raped by Segura” and another in August in which a person “fainted and woke up with injuries consistent with a sexual assault,” according to a PSPD statement.

The criminal complaint accuses Segura of at least two counts of “violence, violence and fear of immediate and unlawful bodily harm,” one of which allegedly involved a minor, and two counts of performing an unlawful sexual act on an unconscious person, authorities said. Two additional counts accuse Segura of using a narcotic, intoxicating drug and/or controlled substance.

Police asked anyone with information about the cases or Segura to contact Detective Michael Delgado at 760-323-8145 or [email protected].
