New Mexico woman dies after outbreak of listeria disease Boar's Head

According to the CDC, a New Mexico resident is among those killed in the listeria outbreak in Boar's Head.

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – A New Mexico resident is among those killed in the listeria outbreak at Boar's Head, according to the CDC.

In the last 10 minutes, KOB 4 learned that the victim was an elderly woman from Bernalillo County. Earlier, the CDC had increased the number of victims to eight due to a listeria outbreak in the Boar's Head deli department.

At least 57 people became ill and had to be hospitalized.

According to the CDC, people age 65 and older, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of contracting listeria.

Boar's Head has recalled over seven million pounds of deli meat. Many of the recalled products are intended for slicing at the deli counter in supermarkets, and some pre-packaged meats are also affected by the recall.
