More women identified as victims, video surveillance reveals last steps of killer Joel Cuachi

New South Wales Police Minister Yasmin Catley has released details of the moment stabber Joel Cauchi was shot.

A lone senior official named Amy Scott was the first on the scene and was led to Cauchi by brave shoppers.

“She was just on duty, was at the station, got the call and immediately went to the scene where she was confronted by the offender,” New South Wales Police Minister Yasmin Catley told the Today Show.

“He lunged at her and she shot him.”

Catley said Scott was extremely “humble” when they spoke after the attack.

“She said it wasn't about me, Minister. She said the people and the bystanders really helped too,” Catley revealed.

New South Wales Police Assistant Commissioner Anthony Cooke said Scott chased Cauchi through the mall and quickly caught up with him when he reached the fifth floor. According to Assistant Commissioner Cooke, Cauchi refused to drop his weapon, which witnesses described as having a “large blade.”

“He turned around, looked at her and raised a knife,” he said. “She fired a firearm and the person is now dead.”

Scott was widely hailed as a hero and is credited with preventing the deaths of other shoppers.
