McLaren recovers from ransomware attack, unclear which patient data was compromised

Michigan-based McLaren Health Care announced that it has completed a Ransomware attack on August 7 forced the company to limit the operation of its care services. The restoration was completed ahead of schedule because McLaren said before the outage would last until August.

The outage had a significant impact on all 13 McLaren hospitals, as well as physician offices, care centers and imaging facilities. Although normal operations have resumed, the health system said it will take time to update patient medical records as record keeping was done manually due to the electronic medical record system outage.

“With the return to normal operations, all temporary procedures introduced during the suspension have been lifted. Healthcare providers at all McLaren Health Care hospitals, Karmanos cancer centers and outpatient clinics have regained access to patients' electronic medical records,” it said in a updated notice.
