Arrests for assault and robbery in Ramona

Investigations lead to the discovery of illegal firearms

East County News Service

August 28, 2024 (Ramona) – Two suspects are suspected of stealing items and attacking employees at the Stars gas station in Ramona shortly before 3:30 a.m. on August 10.

This morning, officers executed a search warrant related to the robbery investigation. While searching a home in the 1700 block of San Vicente Road, officers found items related to the robbery. They also found two privately manufactured firearms, commonly referred to as ghost guns, says Sergeant Sean Gallagher.

Unlike guns made by a licensed manufacturer, ghost guns do not have a serial number or other identifiable markings. The lack of a serial number makes it extremely difficult for law enforcement to trace these firearms back to their owner or manufacturer, hindering or delaying investigations and crime-solving efforts.

Deputies arrested an 18-year-old male, Jahziel Hayes, and a 16-year-old juvenile. Hayes is charged with robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and possession of an illegal firearm. He was booked into the San Diego Central Jail.

The youth was arrested for robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and illegal possession of a firearm. He was sent to the juvenile detention center.
