Pell City Police Department updates its computer software

PELL CITY, Alabama (WBRC) – The Pell City Police Department is receiving new computer software designed to make the department's work more efficient.

“Timely access to information” is how Clay Morris, police chief of Pell City, describes this system improvement for his department.

According to Chief Morris, the department was looking for a new record-keeping and management system to migrate its old reporting system. The City Council gave its full support on Monday by funding this new system.

Chief Morris works with software programs and database systems from the 1990s and believes it was time for his department to take a different direction to increase its efficiency.

“It's a new web-based system in the cloud. It allows for improved data entry. The interface is much easier for officers to use. It's a more robust platform, there are a lot of custom options we can use, support features, statistical reporting features that command staff can use, and there's a crime mapping feature to better serve our community,” said Chief Morris.

Automatic Reporting System, or ARMS for short, is the name of this new program. There is no time frame for when this new upgrade will take place.
