Stranger showers baby with hot coffee in Brisbane: New tragic photos emerge

Detectives have released new images of a man wanted after a young boy was doused with hot coffee.

The baby was having a picnic with his mother and friends at Hanlon Park in Coorparoo, Brisbane, when an unknown man approached the group around midday on Tuesday.

He allegedly poured a thermos of coffee over the little boy, causing burns to 60 percent of his body. He then fled the scene.

On Thursday morning, police released new photos of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the alleged attack.

His age is described as 30-40 years old, of average build and tanned skin.

According to police, the man was wearing a black hat, glasses, a checked button-down shirt and shorts.

The latest pictures were released just a day after the baby's parents described the severity of his injuries.

The nine-month-old boy suffered severe but not life-threatening burns to 60 percent of his body, including his face, upper body and arms.

Horrific footage has emerged showing the baby lying in the hospital wrapped in bandages and screaming in pain.

The baby's mother became emotional as she relived the horrific ordeal.

“It's torture and I'm supposed to be his protector, but I couldn't protect him,” she said.

“I keep having flashbacks of what happened and wishing he had spilled the coffee on me.”

“I don't know who would think it's okay to harm a little, innocent baby.”

Family friend Zara Mazza was sitting next to the baby and his mother when the stranger attacked.

Ms Mazza fought back tears on The Project on Wednesday night as she recalled trying to chase the attacker but stumbling in the process.

The baby's mother (pictured with her partner) said she had repeated “flashbacks” of the moment the man spilled the coffee on her baby.

“When I ran back, I took my water bottle and poured it over him. We laid him on the picnic blanket and took off his clothes. What we found was that his skin was peeling – his skin had started to blister,” she said.

“Some really nice spectators came over, filled water bottles and poured them on him.”

Ms Mazza added that the boy's mother is suffering the consequences of the ordeal.

“She is very anxious at the moment. She can hardly sleep, if at all,” she said.

“Bub is in a stable condition. He has burns to his face, neck, chest and arms and they say he will need regular dressings under anesthesia over the next few weeks.”

An off-duty nurse reportedly heard screams coming from her nearby apartment and ran to the park to help the boy.

The baby (pictured before the attack) was taken to hospital where emergency surgery was performed.

The nurse took the boy into her apartment and held him under a cold shower until the paramedics arrived.

The baby was then taken to Queensland Children's Hospital where emergency surgery was performed.

Ms. Mazza has started a GoFundMe fundraiser to raise money for the baby's medical expenses.

“This was a callous, random attack on my friend's baby. He does not deserve this pain and suffering,” she wrote.

“He is currently in hospital and is [expected] to stay for a while while he is treated for severe burns.

“He has a long recovery ahead of him, which will include further doctor, specialist and hospital visits.”

The young boy (pictured) was in a stable condition on Wednesday morning and remains at Queensland Children's Hospital.

Police described it as a deliberate and unprovoked attack.

“This is callous and cowardly,” Detective Inspector Paul Dalton told reporters on Wednesday.

“Going to a park on a beautiful winter's day in Brisbane and enjoying the time… to be attacked and spoken to like that must be terrifying.”

“In my 35 years as a police officer, I have never seen a job where such a young child was attacked under such circumstances.”

Inspector Dalton also assured parents in Brisbane that his officers would work “around the clock” to find the perpetrator.
