Woman dies in car crash in Cayuga County, GoFundMe launched

A Savannah woman was killed in a car accident in the town of Montezuma on Saturday.

Alicia R. Farr, 50, died when her car struck a tree on Fuller Road, near Carner Road, around 10 p.m. Cayuga County Emergency Services told The Citizen that she was trapped in her vehicle and it took emergency responders about 70 minutes to free her. In a Facebook post, the Throop Fire Department said several rescue shears were used to free her.

The New York State Police, Cayuga County Sheriff's Office, Cayuga County Office of Emergency Services, Aurelius and Montezuma fire departments, and ambulances from Auburn and Throop also responded.

After being freed from the car, Farr was flown by LifeNet helicopter to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.

Farr's daughter, Erica Helmick, launched a GoFundMe campaign Tuesday to help her family pay funeral and other costs. Farr leaves behind four children and six grandchildren.

“Anyone who knows my mother knows she was an amazing woman and she loved her children and grandchildren very much,” Helmick said on the GoFundMe page. “The last few days have been a nightmare for my siblings and I. We were (too) young to lose our beautiful mother so unexpectedly and any donation, no matter how small, would help us tremendously.”

As of Wednesday evening, about $1,200 of the $5,000 GoFundMe goal had been raised.
