Lubbock man allegedly stabbed brother with metal bar

A 32-year-old man arrested Sunday in connection with his brother's death reportedly told investigators he could have walked away from his brother during the argument but ended up stabbing him with a metal bar.

Jeremy Munoz remains held at the Lubbock County Detention Center on murder charges in connection with the death of his 35-year-old brother Jeremy.

The charges stem from an investigation by the Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit that was launched after Lubbock police responded to reports of a domestic altercation at a home in the 3600 block of 42nd Street and found Jeremy Munoz with serious injuries.

He was taken to the University Hospital where he died.

At the scene, officers found traces of blood outside the house that flowed into the house. A bloody, white metal rod was also found at the crime scene.

In the meantime, investigators spoke with the brother's mother, who, according to a probable cause affidavit, stated that Jeremy Munoz had injured his brother and run away.

When officers searched the area, they found Munoz covered in blood and arrested him.

Munoz reportedly spoke to investigators and admitted to injuring his brother.

He said an argument between him and his brother escalated into a fight in the house. Jeremy said during the fight, his brother put him in a chokehold and he grabbed a metal bar. The warrant did not disclose what the brothers were arguing about.

He said his mother told his older brother to let him go, but the brothers continued to argue outside the house.

Munoz said his brother repeatedly spat at him during the argument.

He said he could have walked away, but instead he stabbed his brother with the metal bar, causing the fatal injury, the affidavit states.

Jeremy Munoz was initially arrested on aggravated assault charges, but the charge was upgraded to murder, the affidavit states. He was taken to the Lubbock County Jail, where he remains incarcerated.

His bail is set at $300,000.
