“Last year I had a scare,” she explained. “I discovered a lump in my right breast and when I went to the doctor he said he was more concerned about the lump in my left breast.”

Robb then explained the similarities between her experience and Chas's.

“I had absolutely no idea! Even if you have a feel for things, you're not really sure how to do them right. That's why it's so, so important.

“Fortunately, they were benign. Be careful and check the breasts!”

In the ITV soap, Chas encouraged her brothers Cain and Caleb and her son Aaron to book genetic tests after learning that the cause of their illness is the faulty BRCA2 gene.

Lucy Pargeter, who plays Chas, said of the storyline: “I hope we can do it justice. It won't be all doom and gloom, there will be ups and downs, like anything. But I hope it looks and feels real. And if just a few people can get help with breast changes that don't feel or look right, that could do some good too.”

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7:30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
