Man pleads not guilty to three counts of assault

RAPID CITY, SD (KOTA) – A Pine Ridge man makes his first appearance in federal court today, pleading not guilty to three counts of assault.

23-year-old Jared Red Cloud is accused of assault causing serious injury to his partner and assault by strangulation.

His indictment states that the incidents against his partner occurred three times in 2021, 2023 and 2024.

The judge ultimately decided to keep him in custody because prosecutors argued he was a danger to the community.

His next court date has not yet been set.
