Robbery on East Gansevoort Street

Robbery on East Gansevoort Street

A 54-year-old man was injured in an attack tonight

Incident:
This afternoon at approximately 4:19 p.m., Little Falls Police were called to a male victim at the corner of East Gansevoort and Jackson Streets. The victim claimed to have been shot and was bleeding. This was reported by a passing motorist. A second call from a pedestrian indicated that the victim told the caller he was walking to his home and was covered in blood.

Officers subsequently located the victim, a 54-year-old man known to police, at his residence on North Mary Street. Officers observed an injury and requested emergency medical services to the scene. The Little Falls Fire Department ambulance arrived at the scene and began treating the victim for an open chest wound.

The victim told officers that he was attacked by a person known to both the victim and police and that no firearm was used in the attack. Paramedics took the victim to Wynn Hospital by ambulance.

Police have begun questioning people in the area and are following up on leads.

Police are currently attempting to locate and question a suspect. It is believed that the victim and suspect were involved in an argument over the theft of a bicycle, which ended with the victim being struck by the suspect with an object described as a board with a protruding sharp edge.

There is no reason to believe there is a danger to the public, nor is there any suspicion of a firearm being involved, as officers interviewed the original caller and misinformation was assumed. The victim is currently being treated at Wynn Hospital and is in stable condition. Press releases will be issued as soon as more information is available and will not hinder the investigation.
