DeKalb County Police Investigate Bus Crash at Salem Middle School – On Common Ground News

DEKALB COUNTY, GA – DeKalb County Police and DeKalb School District Police are investigating a school bus crash that left approximately 19 students and the bus driver transported to nearby hospitals for evaluation today, August 28.

A vehicle collided with the school bus and the bus ended up on its side in a ditch, the district said. No one was seriously injured, authorities reported.

District officials issued the following statement regarding the accident:

“At approximately 8:20 a.m. today, DeKalb County School Bus 1929, carrying approximately 25 Salem Middle School students, was reportedly struck by a private passenger vehicle in the 4200 block of River Road in Ellenwood.

As a result of the collision, the bus struck a pole and came to rest on its side in a ditch. DeKalb County Police, DeKalb County Fire Department, DCSD Police, EMS and other DCSD dispatchers were involved in the emergency response to the accident.

Although there are no reports of serious injuries among the bus's occupants, the bus driver and about 19 students were taken to nearby medical facilities, mostly by their family members, for examination and necessary treatment.

DeKalb County Police are conducting the investigation with assistance from DCSD Police.”
