Popular Methacton School District bus attendant killed in head-on collision in Northampton County

LOWER NAZARETH TWP., Pa. (WPVI) — A popular Methacton School District bus attendant who worked with special needs students was killed in a head-on collision in the Lehigh Valley Tuesday morning.

Susan Henderson, 67, was killed in Northampton County when a 27-year-old driver lost control in Lower Nazareth Township and crossed into her lane, killing her.

Henderson was a grandmother of seven children and had taken the day off to take her youngest grandchild to kindergarten for the first time.

Henderson was on her way to pick up her granddaughter around 10:30 a.m. when the accident occurred.

On Wednesday, the Methacton School District released a statement that said, in part, “In her nearly nine years with the Methacton School District, Susan has done everything humanly possible for students. Through her thoughtful and generous nature, she has often provided children in need with the opportunity to participate in school activities that they may not have otherwise been able to afford.”

Toni Bush, one of Henderson's three daughters, said her mother loved her family and made them her top priority, but she also viewed her students as her children.

“We knew so much about her through her stories. Every day she had a new story about them. She sang to them. They confided in her. She was funny. She enjoyed her work. She treated her children with kindness and patience. She was just a special person,” said Bush.

Police say the investigation is still ongoing.

The driver has not been identified or charged.
