Tracking: Terrell's child sex abuse suspect sought after bail escape

This week, authorities at Trackdown need your help locating a child sex abuse suspect who was released from prison on bail and who absconded from jail before the start of his trial.

The Kaufman County Sheriff's Office is searching for Erick Coronado of Terrell on multiple counts of sexual abuse of a child.

Prosecutors say Coronado was released from jail on bail, but when his trial began at the Kaufman County Courthouse, he was nowhere to be found.

“We actually started jury selection that Monday morning and were already partway through jury selection. When we realized he hadn't shown up, we had a jury selected but did not swear them in,” explained Kaufman County Prosecutor Taylor McConnell. “When this happened, all local law enforcement agencies were involved. The Texas Rangers have been involved ever since. Pretty much every law enforcement agency you can think of is trying to find Mr. Coronado right now.”

The district attorney's office is investigating several incidents, but the current focus is on an alleged incident between Canton and Terrell.

“It's the victims who suffer the most when a defendant doesn't show up. He's certainly entitled to his day in court, but the victim is certainly entitled to closure and to be able to tell her story. She's done everything we've asked of her and now she just has to wait.”

Anyone with information on Coronado's whereabouts is asked to contact the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office at (972) 932-4337.
