Carbondale police undergo new personal health training techniques

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KFVS) – Carbondale Police officers are completing new training to better address personal wellness and community trust.

Safer Together is a federally funded training program offered by the Department of Justice and the Bureau of Justice Assistance.

The aim is to inspire police and citizens to contribute to each other's safety and well-being and to strengthen public trust in law enforcement.

According to Carbondale Police Chief Stan Reno, it's a great program that teaches today's police officers important techniques.

“The important thing is that we continue to recognize that we have to take care of our officers. Officers have to take care of themselves. And we recognize how important that is overall to our relationship with the community,” Reno says.

Reno also says the course helps build positive partnerships between police and communities with the shared goal of reducing crime and ensuring safety.
