Fugitive arrested in fatal shooting in Huntington, Kanawha County.

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – A man wanted in connection with the murder of a man nearly two years ago in Huntington was arrested Wednesday in Kanawha County, the U.S. Marshals Service said in a news release.

Damarquis Dewayne Patterson, 20, of Charleston, was taken into custody at Miracle Acres Family Housing in St. Albans around 4 p.m.

The fatal shooting occurred on November 30, 2022, in the 1800 block of 9th Avenue in Huntington. Christopher Johnson, 40, of Huntington, died.

According to investigators, Patterson is wanted for premeditated murder.

US Marshals say: “During the course of the investigation, it was alleged that Patterson, along with Malik Hawk, Lawrence Foye and Matthew Daughtery, plotted to assassinate Johnson.”

In January 2023, Huntington Police obtained an arrest warrant for all four men on charges of first-degree murder.

The press release states that Patterson was arrested in January 2023, but later posted bail and failed to appear for subsequent court dates.

On August 5, 2024, Hawk, Foye and Daughtery entered a “Kennedy plea” in Cabell County District Court to conspiracy to commit murder, according to the U.S. Marshals.

Investigators say Patterson's arrest was the result of a collaborative effort between the U.S. Marshals' CUFFED Task Force, the Kanawha County Sheriff's Warrant Division and the St. Albans Police Department.
