70-year-old injured in ATV accident in Carlton County

One person was injured in an ATV crash in Carlton County on Tuesday. According to the Carlton County Sheriff's Office, authorities received a call that an ATV had overturned in the 2500 block of County Road 4 in Mahtowa Township. The caller reported that the driver was unconscious.

According to the sheriff, a 70-year-old driver apparently lost control of his ATV while moving from a gravel driveway onto the paved roadway of County Road 4. When help arrived, they found the ATV lying on top of the driver. The patient was taken to a hospital near Duluth with significant injuries. The driver was not wearing a helmet.

According to police, no alcohol was involved and the damage to the ATV was minimal.

The Carlton County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Mahtowa, Blackhoof and Carlton fire departments, Carlton Ambulance, Cloquet Area Fire District ambulance and Life Link.
