Former York assistant teacher sentenced to one year in prison after settling plea deal in child sexual assault case

YORK, Nebraska (KOLN) – A former York Public Schools employee accused of sexually abusing two children will spend a year in county jail after the charges against him were reduced in a plea agreement.

Scott Velasquez-Lopez, 23, was sentenced to one year in prison for two counts of child abuse. He will serve his sentence concurrently.

Velasquez-Lopez was previously charged with two counts of third-degree sexual abuse of a child, but the charges were reduced as part of a plea agreement.

On January 23, the York County Sheriff's Office was notified of a sexual assault. A York Public Schools employee reported that a student had been touched inappropriately.

According to an affidavit, an investigation revealed that Velasquez-Lopez sexually abused two children at a home in McCool Junction.

Velasquez-Lopez, who worked as an educational assistant at York Public Schools, was fired after his arrest in January.
