Carlton man suffers serious injuries after ATV accident

MAHTOWA TOWNSHIP, Minnesota – A 70-year-old man suffered serious injuries in an ATV accident Tuesday evening.

The accident occurred at 5:29 p.m. in the 2500 block of County Road 4 in Mahtowa Township.

The Carlton County Sheriff's Office said it received a report of an ATV that rolled over while the driver was unconscious. After investigation, it was determined that the Carlton man lost control of the ATV while turning from a gravel driveway onto the sidewalk. The ATV was on top of him.

The man was taken by helicopter to a hospital in Duluth with serious injuries.

Authorities said the driver was not wearing a helmet and there were no other passengers with him. Alcohol was not a factor.
