Deadline for applications for the White Rock art exhibition is closing

Do you have a great idea for an art exhibition that will appeal to audiences in White Rock?

The deadline for group applications for shows at the Landmark Pop-Uptown Gallery in Central Plaza in 2025 is approaching.

The last day to submit applications to the city, which operates the gallery (15140 North Bluff Rd.), is September 3.

The Gallery Right to existThe city's website states that it “promotes and inspires local artists and creative businesses in White Rock.”

Successful applicants will be able to use the gallery free of charge for one month (the city will cover all incidental costs during the exhibition) and the artists will be able to keep 100 percent of the proceeds from sales. However, the city has certain requirements for applicants.

Only teams of artists (minimum of three) are eligible to participate. Each group must have short-term liability insurance and is responsible for all sales. At least one member of the artists or the curator of the show must reside in White Rock or South Surrey.

In addition, artists must keep the premises open at least four days a week, including Saturdays.

Applications will be judged on a number of criteria, including how well the gallery exhibition is suited to a temporary space and how entrants plan to engage White Rock's Uptown neighborhood.

In addition, the overall concept and feasibility of the project as well as the artistic quality (and/or professional track record) of the participating artists will be taken into account. It will also be assessed whether the proposal presents innovative ideas, has the potential to generate excitement and pushes artistic boundaries.

To submit an application, contact the City’s Cultural Development Manager Rebecca Forrest at [email protected] or 604-542-7580.
