Marathon director fired at Bungie for inappropriate behavior

The director behind Marathon at Bungie was fired this year for inappropriate behavior. According to Bloomberg, Chris Barrett was fired from Bungie in the spring after “several female employees accused him of inappropriate behavior.”

According to Jason Schreier's report, “at least” eight female employees came forward against Barrett at the company and were investigated. It was found that Barrett called lower-level employees attractive while asking them to play truth or dare. In addition, Barrett flaunted his “wealth and power” within the company and suggested that he could help people advance their careers.

Messages sent to Schreier showed requests to go out with the women involved, as well as “flirtatious” texts. It was also said that Barrett's interactions with the women showed “similar patterns.”

“Barrett befriended women from various departments at the studio and then sent them a barrage of text messages that blurred the lines between professional and personal,” Schreier wrote.

In a statement to Bloomberg, Barrett apologized for embarrassing people, but added that that was never his intention.

“I believe I have always conducted myself with integrity and been respectful and supportive of my colleagues, many of whom I consider to be my closest friends,” he said. “I have never felt that my communications were unwelcome and never thought they could make anyone feel uncomfortable. If anyone has ever felt that way when dealing with me, I am sincerely sorry.”

Schreier says Sony, Bungie's parent company, declined to comment on the case, but he received a standard response from a spokesperson saying the company takes all complaints of misconduct seriously.

Bungie employees were not informed that Barrett was fired or why he was no longer with the company.
