CINCINNATI (WXIX) – A man who pleaded guilty in connection with an April 2023 car crash that killed three people has now retracted his confession, according to Hamilton County Prosecutor Melissa Powers.

Andrew Blankenship, 31, initially pleaded guilty to aggravated homicide with a vehicle and aggravated assault with a vehicle in February, but will now face a judge in February 2025.

“We are disappointed when victims of crime wait until they receive the justice they deserve. Unfortunately, three families will now have to wait even longer for this case to be resolved. We will continue to fight to ensure that Andrew Blankenship is held accountable for his actions,” Power said.

The April 7, 2023, crash on Interstate 275 Blankenship killed 66-year-old Richard Glaser, 22-year-old Janaya Glover and 38-year-old AAA tow truck driver Keith Skaggs, the Hamilton County District Attorney's Office said.

At around 9:30 p.m. that evening, according to prosecutors, Blankenship, who was drunk, was driving recklessly and without headlights near the Five Mile Road and New Richmond highway exits.

Blankenship drove onto the right shoulder of I-275 and struck two occupied stationary vehicles and a AAA traffic service tow truck, prosecutors said.

Powers said Blankenship lost control of the truck when he struck the first stationary car.

Hamilton County Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey said the struck car was pushed into the other stationary car, which in turn struck Skaggs, who was outside his vehicle.

His trial is scheduled to begin on February 11, 2025.
