IDF publishes results of investigation into violence in Jit village – Israel News

The central commander of the Israel Defense Forces, Major General Avi Bluth, on Wednesday described the attack by around 100 Jewish extremists on the Palestinian West Bank village of Yit on August 15 as the worst Jewish terror event of all time.

In his investigation into the incident, in which numerous houses and cars were burned, one Palestinian was killed and several others were attacked, he said he and all those involved from Israel and the Israeli army had failed to adequately defend the Palestinian village.

The military said investigations showed that a regional warning was issued at 8 p.m. when the Shin Bet noticed that certain extremists were gathering in cars. Based on this warning, security forces barricaded themselves at the main intersections and roads.

At that time, however, the Israeli army did not block the trance to Jit. The investigation does not explain why, but says lessons should be learned for the future.

The investigation also found that there were initially only a few IDF soldiers on the scene when they learned that Yit was under attack, and that they were too passive in their attempts to disperse the Jewish terrorists.

Furthermore, the investigation found that IDF forces were initially unaware of the scale and severity of the Jewish terrorist attack.

Only later did the troops block the entrance to the village of Jit, preventing further rioters from entering the village.

When more IDF troops arrived, they began to physically push back and encircle the Jewish attackers, including firing warning shots in the air and dispersing the crowd.

However, the IDF never fired live ammunition at the Jewish attackers, nor did it shoot at their legs as they fled.

No arrests in Jit

The Israeli forces did not arrest a single person that night. According to an Israeli source, this was difficult in the darkness of the night when all the Jewish attackers ran off in different directions.

In contrast, the Israeli army allows its soldiers to shoot at the legs of Palestinian suspects who try to escape.

Only later did the Shin Bet and the police arrest four of the approximately 100 attackers, who are currently under investigation. There was no new information about them or the killing of the Palestinian.
