NCT' Taeil leaves K-pop group after allegations of sexual misconduct

K-pop band NCT has suffered a major blow. Taeil, the boy band's lead singer, has left the group following allegations of sexual assault. The 30-year-old singer. NCT's agency, SM Entertainment, announced the news of Taeil's departure in a press release.

“We recently learned that Taeil is facing criminal charges for a sexual offense. When we assessed the facts in this regard, we recognized the seriousness of the situation and came to the conclusion that Taeil can no longer continue his activities with the team (NCT). After consulting with Taeil, we have decided to have him leave the group. Taeil is currently cooperating fully with the police investigation. We will make further statements as the investigation progresses. We deeply apologize for the concern and distress our artist has caused,” it said.

NCT members unfollow Taeil

Shortly after the news broke, other NCT members unfollowed Taeil on Instagram. The social media profiles of NCT and NCT 127 unfollowed Taeil following his departure from the groups.

Furthermore, former members Taeyong, Doyoung, and Haechan have also removed the K-pop star from their Instagram followers. Taeyong, the leader of NCT who is currently serving in the military, has also deleted all group photos that featured Taeil. Furthermore, Taeyong has unfollowed everyone on his Instagram, causing his follower count to drop to zero. Likewise, Doyoung has deleted his entire follower list, including Taeil, while Haechan has also unfollowed the former group member.

Taeil originally debuted as a K-pop idol in NCT and later became a permanent member of NCT 127. NCT 127 was formed by SM Entertainment and officially debuted with their mini album NCT #127. The group's current lineup includes Taeyong, Yuta, Jaehyun, Mark, Haechan, Doyoung, Jungwoo, and Johnny. Their most popular tracks include Cherry Bomb, Kick It, Sticker, and others. In 2023, the group released their fifth studio album titled “Fact Check” along with a music video for the title song of the same name. In the same year, they embarked on their third world tour “Neo City – The Unity” and performed in numerous cities across Asia. In addition, a documentary series titled “NCT 127: The Lost Boys” was released in 2023 and is available to stream on Disney+.
