Police in North Las Vegas shoot teenager who shot at police | Shootings

The North Las Vegas Police Department said officers shot and wounded a 15-year-old boy early Wednesday morning. The boy was wanted for multiple car break-ins and fired a gun at officers.

According to a press release, officers were investigating several car break-ins that occurred in the 5200 block of Styers Street around 12:30 a.m. Later, around 2:55 a.m., police received a report of a car break-in in the 5100 block of Rocky Bluff Street.

The owner of the vehicle described the suspect as a young man wearing dark clothing, the police press release said.

According to NLVPD, two officers located a suspect matching the previously reported description in the 4300 block of Matinee Avenue at around 3:04 a.m.

When officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, authorities said he immediately raised a gun and fired at the officers, after which one of the officers fired his weapon at the suspect.

The suspect then led officers on a short foot chase, during which, according to police, another exchange of gunfire occurred between the suspect and the two officers.

During the exchange of gunfire, the suspect was hit in the arm and surrendered to officers.

The suspect was transported to UMC where he was treated for a non-life-threatening injury. After being released from the hospital, the suspect will be taken into custody, police said.

According to police, investigators believe the suspect was involved in at least eight car break-ins before officers made contact with him.

The incident, which is the third police-involved shooting for North Las Vegas police in 2024, remains under investigation.

The identities of the officers involved are not expected to be released for at least 72 hours.
