Dodi was pronounced dead at the scene, as was the driver, Henri Paul, who autopsy reports said had drunk too much alcohol. “My God, what happened?” Diana said, according to Sergeant Xavier Gourmelon, a firefighter on the scene. When Diana was extracted from the wreckage of the car, she suffered cardiac arrest. Rescue workers performed CPR and she was taken to Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital with her bodyguard, Trevor Rees-Jones, where surgeons attempted to restart her heart.

Thousands of mourners and flowers arrived outside Kensington Palace in the days following Princess Diana's funeral in early September 1997.

Sadly, the princess was pronounced dead at around 4am on August 31st at the age of 36. Later that same day, then-Prince Charles flew to Paris with Diana's sisters, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes, to bring her body home.

In 2004, Operation Paget was launched to investigate the circumstances that led to Diana's death. “Every single aspect of conspiracy theories and the like is being investigated by my team and the coroner,” said Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir John Stevens.

A dozen experienced police officers were involved in the extensive investigation, it lasted years and cost millions, according to The New York Times. The report, published in December 2006, ultimately concluded that Princess Diana's death was an accident and claimed that the various conspiracy theories that had emerged over the years were untenable.

Despite the conclusive results of the investigation, the tragic deaths of Diana and Dodi continue to capture public interest almost thirty years later. There are still no details about when or where Who killed Diana? airs, but this upcoming documentary will almost certainly be a must-see.
