Dump truck driver hospitalized after accident on I-476

A driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after his dump truck crashed on the Pennsylvania Turnpike early Wednesday morning.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, a 64-year-old Palmerton man was driving south on I-476 near mile marker 117.5 in Pittston Township when the crash occurred around 3 a.m.

The truck's dump bed was up and struck the Susquehanna Conn. Road overpass, causing the truck to strike the concrete barrier.

The driver was taken to hospital with suspected serious injuries, police said.

According to 511PA, about 25 kilometers of the Pennsylvania Turnpike were closed due to the accident while emergency crews were busy cleaning up.
