Julianne Hough recently spoke about the accident that led to the death of her dogs.

At a performance on August 27 at The Jamie Kern Lima Show, Sadly, Julianne announced the heartbreaking news that her dogs Lexi and Harley were killed by coyotes.

“I woke up before my phone even rang and I knew. I picked up the phone and my assistant at the time was just screaming,” the dancer recalled learning of the loss.

Julianne added that before Lexi and Harley's deaths, she “never had coyotes in her yard” and had even fenced in her property.

Despite the grief, she found a small consolation: “They went together, I'm so grateful that they went together,” she told the presenter.

Julianne added: “Secondly, I'm grateful that it usually happens very quickly and that we got their bodies. But at the time I thought, 'Oh, that was the dissolution of the absolute security of unconditional love.'”

“I had two dogs that were my children,” said the former AGT The judge said sadly: “I had them for eleven years and eight years. And they were everything to me.”

To make matters worse, Lexi and Harley's deaths occurred in the midst of her separation from her now ex-husband Brooks Laich and while she was simultaneously parting ways with her longtime assistant and launching her new business, Kinrgy.

“I had asked for a separation,” Julianne recalled tearfully. “And then ten days later my dogs were killed by coyotes.”

She revealed: “I felt so… out of place. I'm in the middle of starting this company that helps people connect with themselves and live their freest selves, and my assistant and I are splitting up, my ex and I, or, well, my then-husband, I'm asking for a split because something isn't working. My dogs, who represented unconditional love and security – gone. I'm thinking, 'What am I doing here? I'm blowing up my life.'”

Julianne Hough became a dog mom again in 2023!

In September 2023, a new dog named Sunny came into Julianne's life! She recently celebrated Sunny's first birthday on July 6, 2024, with an adorable Instagram video showing a sweet montage of their moments together.

In the caption, Julianne wrote, “Sunny, you have brought so much love and literally sunshine into my life. I can't remember a time without you.”

“Lexi and Harley would have loved you and played with you every day, and I know they sent you to me only when I was ready to open my heart and love again,” Julianne added. “You opened my heart up, darling. Thank you.”

In March 2024, Julianne spoke with People and shared how her puppy Sunny has improved her mental health.

“Our morning ritual is we play in bed. I wake her up, she comes into bed with me and we play for a good 15 minutes,” she told the outlet as a dog mom. “You'd be surprised how much it changes your energy when you're laughing, playing and being totally present when you're with a dog.”

She continued, “Nothing is better than a dog.”
