Road accident in Limpopo: Ten Zimbabweans killed, thirty others injured when a Mzansi Express bus coming from Zimbabwe overturned in Limpopo

In a tragic incident, ten Zimbabwean citizens died while thirty others were injured in a road accident when a Mzansi Express bus overturned near the town of Makhado in the South African province of Limpopo.

The bus was en route from Bulawayo to Gauteng province when the accident occurred.

Details of the incident

According to the Limpopo Provincial Department of Transport and Public Safety, the accident occurred late Tuesday evening shortly before midnight on the N1 highway.

“Ms Violet Mathye, Member of the Limpopo Executive Committee (MEC), has learned with sadness of the death of 10 passengers who died in a bus accident near 3 Miles on the N1 near Makhado,” the statement said.

The bus, travelling from Zimbabwe to Johannesburg, lost control after driving through a roundabout at high speed.

Five men and five women were killed in the accident; all of the deceased were Zimbabwean citizens.

Injuries and reaction

“30 people were reportedly injured in the fatal accident. The ministry confirmed that the injured passengers were taken to different hospitals for treatment.”

MEC Violet Mathye conveyed her condolences to the families of the deceased and wished those in hospital a speedy recovery.
