Vice President Harris is mocked for being “too scared” to give an interview without Walz: “You just can't leave her unattended”

The announcement that Vice President Kamala Harris' first formal interview as a 2024 presidential candidate would be accompanied by her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, was met with derision online.

CNN announced Tuesday that Dana Bash will record a joint interview with Harris and Walz on Thursday during their campaign in Georgia, which is scheduled to air the same evening.

It will be the first time Harris has given an official interview to the press since President Biden dropped out of the race and she was named the nominee 38 days ago.

However, the news that Harris would give her first interview alongside Walz and with a sympathetic moderator and network was seen as an admission that the vice president, notorious for her word salads, was “incapable” of handling a lengthy media appearance alone.

Abigail Jackson, communications director for Josh Hawley, wrote: “Kamala has to do a live press conference alone without editing. She wants to be commander in chief and is too afraid to do an interview without Tim Walz by her side? Girl power, right?”

“Joe Biden can't get into a car or climb a flight of stairs without an escort, and Kamala Harris apparently can't even speak to a CNN reporter alone. Embarrassing,” commented Sean Davis, co-founder of The Federalist.

Mediaite writer Caleb Howe joked that the ballot would ask, “WHAT DO YOU THINK MADE THEM BOTH CHARMED ABOUT THEIR NOMINATION?”

“LOL, a joint interview. She just can't be left unattended,” wrote National Review writer Jeff Behar, adding, “To quote a colleague at NR, Tim Walz is apparently Kamala Harris' 'Midwestern emotional support.'”

“When will we have the first interview just with Kamala? Never?” shouted Phil Kerpen, president of American Commitment.

Fox News contributor Katie Pavlich wrote: “The woman who wants to be the first female president of the United States can't give an interview alone? Interesting… and embarrassing.”

“Why does he have to be there?” asked Stephen Miller, editor of the Spectator.

“The entire interview must be published – unedited,” wrote conservative commentator Steve Guest.

37 DAYS: Vice President Harris refuses to announce policy positions or give press conferences or interviews

In a comment to Fox News Digital, Dan Schneider, vice president of MRC Free Speech America, dismissed the announcement, saying Harris would never do “a real interview with a real journalist” on actual political issues.

“Kamala Harris is still avoiding the press. She's going to do an interview with Dana Bash. Dana Bash is notorious for asking easy questions of candidates who share her political worldview and then of course being very tough and asking a lot of questions of people on the right who have different views. But we all knew that Kamala Harris was ultimately going to do essentially a mock interview with a very sympathetic interviewer. And so Dana Bash got the nod,” Schneider said.

He added: “The media should boycott anything to do with Kamala Harris until she gives a real press conference. The media could force her to behave like a real candidate for public office rather than an entertainer seeking stardom in the next role. And that's how she's behaving now. She's just trying to become a star.”
