Missing boy Ryan Akabusi found dead in lake in Richmond, Texas

A missing, non-speaking 8-year-old boy was found dead in a Texas lake over the weekend, authorities said.

According to the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office and KTRK, Ryan Akabusi was last seen around 4:30 a.m. Saturday in Richmond, a suburb of Houston.

After an Amber Alert was issued, search operations began, including the use of police dogs.

On Sunday morning, Ryan's body was found by Texas Equusearch, a nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to finding missing persons. Ryan's body was recovered shortly after 6:45 a.m. from a lake near where he was last seen.

KTRK reported that his mother, Ademorowa Oladeinde, reviewed surveillance camera footage that captured the moment Ryan left the house early Saturday morning around 5:45 a.m.

According to the report, Oladeinde found Ryan's shoes on the street.

About 30 minutes after leaving the house, Ryan was also caught on the neighbor's camera.

Authorities plan to review additional footage from the community to gain more insight into the incidents.

Captain Dalia Simons told the outlet that so far there is no evidence to suggest foul play. It is unclear how he ended up in the water.

Similar cases in North Carolina, Florida

Last week, North Carolina authorities said an autistic and non-speaking boy, Zachariah William Walker, was found dead in a pond near his home in Ronda after his family reported him missing.

Earlier this month, a 5-year-old boy was rescued from a pond after he escaped from his Deltona, Florida, home and set off the alarm system. His father told officials that the autistic child was “attracted to water,” prompting officials to search for him at bodies of water in the area.
